ABOUT ME

“If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s,

we rob them of tomorrow.” John Dewey

Teacher, educator, visionary, dreamer with a passion for teaching English as a second language.
I have been teaching for quite some time now, but every day seems like the first day. Every day is different from the previous one, every day I come home with a new idea, with inspiration. Every day I learn something new about my students and…. about me. And the more I learn, the more I realize that I will never stop learning and this is the reason why I love my job.

I have taught to students of different ages: from nursery kids to university students. I have not made up my mind yet. If someone asked me which one is my favorite age group I would not know what to answer. I simply love teaching and I love being the one to adjust to the classroom I have in front of me. In the same day, I can be a clown teacher or a serious professor… and I love it!

Brief summary:
The thesis aims to study and analyze the role of modern advertising in the U.S Black Press to influence and determine the building of the African-American identity. The book is divided into 4 main chapters and a conclusion; each chapter is focused on a specific topic and presents it with detailed information. The first chapter presents a history of American advertising from its roots to the present day; the second chapter focuses on the American multicultural marketplace providing its demographic and sociological profiles. The third chapter gives a detailed analysis of the main target of the thesis: the African American target. The attention is focused on the main African-American historical events and on the consequences that they had on the society and on advertising, which is sort of a distorted mirror of the society. The chapter presents the history of advertising for African-Americans and also tells about the features of modern advertising related to that race; the final part of the third chapter provides a sociological and demographical analysis of the African-American target. The fourth chapter is about the analysis and the study of 70 magazines belonging to the Black Press and their 5.245 pages of advertising.
The fifth chapter draws the conclusions presenting the main values on which advertising for African-Americans is based and their influence and meaning on the African-American society and on the American society.
